How Pregnancy Support works

Pregnancy Support is a dietary supplement containing a carefully selected blend of probiotic strains that support the balance of the gut and vaginal microbiota in women planning a pregnancy, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, as well as the baby’s microbiota.

The formula has been developed based on the gut-vagina axis concept, which describes the natural links between the gut microbiota and the microbiota of the urogenital tract. In a healthy vaginal microbiota, bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus predominate; these help maintain a suitable microbial environment, amongst other things, by producing lactic acid and other metabolites that support the balance of the microflora.

The product contains the ASTARTE™ complex, comprising four Lactobacillus strains (Lactobacillus crispatus, L. rhamnosus, L. gasseri and L. jensenii), which have been isolated from the genital tracts of healthy pregnant women. These strains are naturally associated with a healthy vaginal microbiota.

The formula has been supplemented with the well-researched Lactobacillus rhamnosus LGG® strain, one of the best-known probiotic strains used to support the balance of the gut microbiota.

The formulation also contains ISTILOS™ Bifidobacterium infantis, a probiotic strain isolated from the gut of a healthy infant. Bacteria of the genus Bifidobacterium are a natural component of the infant gut microbiota and play an important role in its early development.

The mother’s microbiota is a key factor in shaping the infant’s microbiota during the early stages of life. During birth, the newborn comes into contact with microorganisms present in the mother’s microbiota.

Scientific research also indicates the possibility of selected bacteria being transferred from the mother’s gut to breast milk via the so-called entero-mammary pathway. As a result, breast milk may contain beneficial bacteria that support the development of the infant’s gut microbiota.

Pregnancy Support combines probiotic strains naturally associated with the microbiota of women and infants, helping to maintain the balance of the gut and vaginal microbiota during this special period of life.

Research

Probiotics during the first 7 years of life: A cumulative risk reduction of eczema in a randomized, placebo-controlled trial

Seeding the Infant Gut in Early Life—Effects of Maternal and Infant Seeding with Probiotics on Strain Transfer, Microbiota, and Gastrointestinal Symptoms in Healthy Breastfed Infants

Przegląd badań pokazujący, że wybrane szczepy (zwłaszcza LGG i B. infantis) stosowane od okresu okołoporodowego mogą długofalowo kształtować zdrowie dziecka poprzez wpływ na mikrobiotę i odporność.
